About the rooms and conveniences

The first question normally asked is "how many beds"? Many homes in Cozumel try to get as many beds in each room as possible, because it is good economics. These houses, no larger than ours, put two double beds in each room to sleep up to 12 people. This is not what we are about. Here is our three-bedroom arrangement, for six people:

The total interior of the villa has central air conditioning. We also have ceiling fans in every room, including the bathrooms and patio. We ask that you not smoke inside. Our reverse osmosis water purification system provides pure water throughout the whole house including sinks and showers.

Downstairs bedroom: One king size bed with firm mattress. Very large marble bathroom with double shower and double sinks. Ocean view.

Upstairs bedroom with large sun terrace front and back. One king size stabilized waterbed. Elevated ocean view.

Upstairs bedroom with balcony in front and terrace in back. One king size bed. Elevated ocean view.

Bathrooms: Three and a half bathrooms. A large marble (double shower) bathroom for each bedroom and a half bath off the living room downstairs for day use.

Living room: Couch, love seat, and two chairs. Ocean view. High quality stereo, CD and DVD player. Satellite TV system with 32 inch TV. High Quality TV picture with many Channels from US (CNN, Fox News, HBO, Cinemax, Discovery, ESPN, etc.) Satellite TV system also provides a variety of digital stereo music. Excellent ocean view.

Dining room: Large glass top table with seating for eight. Ocean view (through living room).

Kitchen: Large refrigerator with freezer/ice-maker. Plenty of space for beer, cokes and personal snacks. Purified water for drinking and ice-maker. Blender for margaritas. Facilities for cooking, but this is our housekeeper's territory. Please let her do the cooking. Feliciana squeezes fresh limejuice for margaritas. She appreciates an offer of a margarita or a glass of wine at dinner.

Service room: Washer, drier, second refrigerator for food and extra ice.

Maids quarters: Feliciana (Feli) has been with us over fourteen years, and is very dependable. She has her own bedroom and bathroom at the back corner of the house with a separate entrance from the back porch. She will be preparing your breakfast while you are awaking, snorkeling, beachcombing, or whatever you do early in the morning. She retires to her room after the dinner dishes are done. A tip of two to three dollars per day per person is an appreciated reward for her services.

Patio: Large screened patio with lounge chairs, hammock hooks, and barbecue pit. Wonderful place for relaxing before dinner, in the morning, or anytime. Special well-ventilated room with SCUBA wash tank for washing and hanging your equipment. Lock the door for security. Also shower with hot and cold water, but no soap in this room. Please wash the sand off feet and gear with hose at back door before entering patio.

Sky box: The newest addition to Villa Dzul-Ha. From the back upstairs terrace, a spiral staircase takes you up to a terrace on top of the roof. Morning, afternoon or evening, enjoy the sunrise, sunset, or just soak up some rays in relative seclusion and view the magnificent Caribbean. At night, gaze at the moon and stars.

Front yard: Across the road is the beach and the best snorkeling in Cozumel. The beach has St. Augustine grass near the road with shade trees, and some sand down to the rocky shoreline. Because the shoreline is rocky, the water is very clear, with a lot of fish and beautiful coral. Enjoy the shade trees on our beach or you are also welcome to use the palapa beach deck of the hotel next door. If the bar is open, they will be in hopes of selling you a pina colada, margarita or other drink. It's OK to carry a drink to the palapa, but please don't bring your igloo full of beer (unless the bar is closed)!!! If you take beer to the beach bring the empty bottles back.

Next door: Our next door neighbor to the north does not rent the magnificent house, but provides the shady front yard, swimming pool, and beach as the Cozumel-Palmar Estate Beach Club. If you want to go next door for the pool, drinks, and snacks, please do not take food or drinks over, as drinks and snacks are available at a nominal cost. This is a nice option for lunch if you want to hang around the neighborhood. For more information on facilities, services, and charges, go to the website: http://cozumelinsider.com/palmar/
